David Bugli, music director and conductor of the Carson City Symphony and leader the Mile High Jazz Band, will be the featured speaker at Monday’s Democratic luncheon. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in music education from Ithaca College in New York, where he studied composition for four years with renowned Czech-born classical composer and conductor Karel Husa, recipient of the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for Music. He went on to earn a Master of Music Degree from the University of Massachusetts.

For several semesters, Bugli served as a part time music instructor at Western Nevada College. For 21 years he has served as principal organizer of the Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, which has become a beloved annual event featuring a wide range of jazz performances by musicians and bands at multiple venues around the city, including the Governor’s Mansion, Comma Courtyard, Silver Saddle Ranch, and McFadden Plaza.

In addition to his roles as conductor and band leader, David Bugli plays classical and jazz piano, tuba, and trombone, as well as composing and arranging music. He also plays leadership roles in a number of community organizations, including the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation and the Carson City Historical Society. He was awarded the 2007 Governor’s Arts Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts.

This luncheon is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, December 9th, and can either be attended in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Bugli’s presentation will begin after all lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30 PM. A link to the video recording will be distributed once it’s been uploaded.
