Carson City Rotarians and members of the public can learn how to take better control of their future when guest speaker Tom DuBos presents his “Own Your Destiny” program at the next club meeting.

Dubos will explain how being proactive, resourceful and open to challenges can enhance people’s lives. The public is invited to attend the meeting which takes place Tuesday, Dec. 2, at noon, in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 West King Street in Carson City.

DuBos says people can often sabotage their own destiny. “Some people have what I call Imposter Syndrome, they doubt their own ability to meet expectations or requirements.  It causes people to hold back on actions that could advance their cause.”

He adds that other ways of thinking also get in the way.  “Another closely related trend is what I call Perfect is the Enemy of the Good.  Always waiting for the perfect plan, perfect timing, or perfect conditions instead of forging ahead with what you have. Taking calculated risks helps both of those two struggles.”

Tom DuBos is a human contradiction: a recovering engineer who loves public speaking, a lackluster high school athlete who caught the triathlon bug, and a city kid who now lives to be outdoors.  Currently he speaks on achieving your own personal greatness, as well as sales skills and effective presentations.
