CARSON CITY, NV – A dedicated team of quilters and crafters has brought creativity and an impressive amount of artistic talent to the nation’s capital to make history at the United States Capitol Building Christmas Tree.

All items will debut as part of this year’s festivities, beginning with the harvesting of the Silver Belle tree from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Created by a talented group of quilters, each quilt reflects themes of Nevada and is inspired to capture its vibrancy.

Four beautifully handcrafted quilts, all designed and explicitly sewn to represent iconic symbols of Nevada.

The quilters are members of Capital Quilters, a quilting group that meets at the Carson City Senior Center. Four quilters took the lead and spent months perfecting their quilts, with the support of the rest of the group.

Time spent perfecting a design, with painstaking hours spent pulling stitches and adorning embellishments, was all part of the process. “All About Nevada” was made by Lori Carver, who stated she was excited to have her beautiful work shared at the nation’s capital.

Jasmine Shackley’s “Battle Born” was designed in denim and features 36 stars to represent the 36th state to join the union. “Nevada State Symbols,” made by Rochelle Summers, shared that it was a team effort, with everyone working together to make the quilts perfect.

Lynn Berry handcrafted the “Big Cities of Nevada” quilt, working hard to capture iconic images and the state’s famous attractions.

In addition to the quilts, the Hidden Treasures Gift Shop volunteers at the Carson City Senior Center also made 140 ornaments representing Nevada to capture the “Starry Skies to Neon Light – the Spirit of the Silver State.”

“This project was an honor to share a piece of Nevada with Washington, D.C.,” said Gift Shop Manager Julie Linstrom. “These items were made with love, care, and well wishes for all to enjoy!” The quilts and ornaments will be displayed in Washington, D.C.
