By Robert Rikalo, Volunteer Coordinator / Reserve Cmdr. — The Carson City Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) celebrated its dedicated volunteers at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition Brunch held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Fandango Casino in Carson City. This year, volunteers have collectively contributed over 17,000 hours of service, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the community.
During the event, five exceptional volunteers were honored with the Lifetime Presidential Service Award for their remarkable dedication, each contributing over 4,000+ service hours. The awardees included:
Tom Crawford – Volunteer Admin Assistant & Past Reserve Commander David Oren – VIPS Patrol FTO Craig LaGier – Chaplain Sherry LaGier – Chaplain Assistant Jail Shirley Gibson – Front Counter & Jail Visitation FTO
In addition to the lifetime award recipients, numerous other CCSO volunteers and volunteer auxiliaries were recognized for their outstanding contributions across various departments, including: Front Counter, Civil & Records, Evidence, Investigations, Jail Visitation, VIPS Patrol, Uniformed Reserves, Aero Squadron, Chaplains, Search and Rescue, Cadets, and Mounted Unit.
Sheriff Kenneth Furlong, Undersheriff Jerome Tushbant, Assistant Sheriff James Primka, Captain Clay Wall, Lieutenant Matt Smith, and Volunteer Coordinator/Reserve Commander Robert Rikalo expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication shown by the CCSO volunteer team.
The keynote speaker for the event, Brett Compston, the incoming Chief for the Nevada Department of Emergency Management, praised the volunteers for their significant impact on the community and the invaluable services they provide to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
The CCSO extends heartfelt thanks to all volunteers for their commitment and looks forward to another year of service and community engagement.
