Two were arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony child abuse and neglect after Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies investigating a juvenile altercation found filthy conditions inside the children’s home.
After finding piles of trash and clothing, a fly infestation, rat droppings, cat feces and drug paraphernalia within reach of children inside the Bunch Way home, CCSO deputies arrested David Scott Todarello, 43, and Jen Dawson, 44.
According to the booking report, deputies responded at 9:06 a.m. for a juvenile problem. Deputies arrived and spoke with one of the juveniles. As a deputy was conducting an investigation that involved an altercation and a knife, the home’s living conditions appeared to be unsuitable for the children.
A deputy received consent to search the residence from suspect Dawson. Inside, the report notes deputies were “overwhelmed” with the smell of cat feces and urine. Deputies observed the living room area was covered with clothing and trash with piles of clothing and bags of trash that had to be stepped on and over to walk inside the residence, the arrest report states.
Entering the dining room, deputies observed papers and trash that took up the whole space of the dining table. On the table deputies found a container of THC within reach of children as well as a marijuana pen that was within reach of the children, as was open cabinets that contained marijuana bongs, also within reach of the children, the report states.
In the kitchen deputies observed clutter all over the counters and cabinets that contained rat feces inside. The refrigerator contained food but was dirty on the inside. Deputies observed a marijuana pipe and trash piled up in the kitchen with flies “everywhere,” the report states. Inside the residence were several fly traps located around the house.
Upon entering the first bathroom deputies observed trash and hairbrushes all over the sink. The toilet was dirty with discolored residue in the toilet bowl. Deputies entered one of the children’s bedroom where they found dirty fishtanks and piles of clothing and trash. In another child’s room, deputies observed a habitat for a tortoise and a litter box filled with cat feces, the report states.
Deputies checked the master bedroom in the back of the residence where a child sleeps and observed clothing and trash all over the floor and bed and discolored brown splatters on the wall, the report states.
Inside the restroom attached to the bedroom, officers found it to be in poor condition, including magazines for firearms and two firearms in the storage space behind the main mirror, the report states.
Due to the living conditions at the residence where the children lived, the couple were arrested for suspicion of felony child abuse/neglect. Bail: $50,000 each.
In other arrests:
Two men and one woman were arrested Saturday for suspicion of burglary of a business and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Arrested were Steven Harold Trotter, 60, of Las Vegas, Brian Hernandez, 34, of Reno, and Sharlene Marie Espinoza, 41, of Reno.
The three were booked for alleged burglary of a business, theft of scrap metal/utility property and possession of burglary tools. Trotter was also booked for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The matter remains under investigation. No other information was made available. Bail: $20,000 each.
— A 52-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession, receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
At 11:33 a.m. deputies were dispatched in an attempt to locate a possible stolen U-Haul vehicle that was detected by a Flock camera in the area of South Carson Street and Second Street.
At 11:44 a.m. a CCSO sergeant located the vehicle, unoccupied, at a South Carson Street grocery store parking lot. Deputies responded to the location of the vehicle and attempted to locate the driver.
At around 11:50 a.m. a woman, identified as Lavurne Jeffreys, was seen getting into the vehicle through the driver’s door. At this time, deputies initiated a high risk stop to prevent the vehicle from leaving the parking spot, the report states.
The woman was verbally ordered out of the vehicle, which she complied and was placed into a patrol vehicle where she was advised of her Miranda rights. She stated she understood and agreed to speak. She stated she rented the U-Haul out of South Reno for three days. She stated she called U-Haul and told them she would return the truck at some point this weekend but didn’t give a specific date.
She said the rental agreement was in her vehicle and U-Haul agreed to let her keep the truck for a few days. The report notes the rental agreement was never located for the above-mentioned dates.
Deputies on scene contacted U-Haul, who stated they reported the truck stolen on July 29 and that the woman was the person named on the rental agreement and also the suspect.
Based on the woman being in physical possession of the confirmed stolen vehicle and the sole occupant of the vehicle, she was placed under arrest for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle. Bail: $7,500.
— A 68-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday at an East Long Street address for four misdemeanor contempt of court warrants. Bail: $4,000 cash.
— A 60-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Sunday for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant. Bail: $688.
— A 61-year-old Dayton man was arrested Sunday for a misdemeanor warrant alleging violation of conditions of suspension. Bail: $1,000 cash.
— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 5:41 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor trespassing. Bail: $637.
— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor warrant alleging violation of a temporary protection order against domestic violence. Bail on hold in lieu of hearing.
— A Carson City man, Tobey McDonald Ahdunko, who is in custody on other charges at Carson City Jail was booked Saturday for an outside agency warrant issued out of Washoe Tribal Court for crimes of battery, domestic battery and criminal mischief.
— 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies responded at 6:59 a.m. to a Brown Street address for domestic battery. Deputies arrived and spoke with a woman, later identified as the suspect, who advised she and her girlfriend were in an argument.
She advised her girlfriend was sleeping when she confronted her for being out late the previous night. She said the girlfriend stood and slapped her with an open hand on the left side of her face. The suspect was checked for injuries and observed slight redness on her left cheek. She advised that in response, she hit her girlfriend on the left side of her face with her metal water bottle. She advised that the altercation ended after that.
A deputy spoke with the victim who advised her girlfriend woke her up to confront her for going out late the previous night. She advised she slapped her girlfriend on the left side of her face with an open hand and advised the suspect hit her on the left side of her face with a water bottle. She advised the altercation ended.
The deputy observed injuries on the left side of her face. The officer observed bruising on her left cheek under her eye. Due to the suspect responding at a higher level of aggression with an object (water bottle) that left bruising, she was identified as the primary aggressor and arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
— A 40-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Monday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, making a false statement to obstruct an officer and drug paraphernalia possession. Bail: $2,500.
