It’s been a mixed bag of activity so far Wednesday with valley rain, Sierra snow and power outages extending throughout Carson City into Lyon and Douglas counties.
NV Energy reports power outages extending from Carson City into Silver Springs in Lyon and Topaz in Douglas County. Multiple outages began early Wednesday morning, after around 1 a .m. and have continued into midmorning.
Through the duration, outages had affected several thousand customers from south to north Carson City and into Mound House, Dayton and Silver Springs and Stagecoach. NV Energy says the outages are related to damage to equipment. Go here for a real-time map of outages. As of 9:15 a.m. an outage is happening in south Douglas County around Topaz Ranch Estates affecting 58 customers. South of Silver Springs, 135 NV Energy customers were without power as of 9:15 a.m.
Snow amounts of 2 to 6 inches are possible on the Sierra passes and into the Carson Range of western Nevada. There are chain requirements as of Wednesday morning in some areas, including over State Route 207, Kingsbury Grade, Interstate 80 over Donner and State, Highway 395 in Mono County and State Route 28 from Highway 50 to Memorial Point. Rainfall amounts in the valleys will be up to 1/2 inch focused near and south of Highway 50. For locations north of I-80, rain and snow will be very spotty. Temperatures will also be much colder today with a brisk north to northeast wind creating wind chills in the 20s and 30s.
