The so-called “Super Moon” rises above the Pine Nut Mountains to the east of Carson City Monday evening. This photograph, taken by Lisa Fisher, was shot in East Carson City just above Empire Ranch.
A super moon is about 15 percent larger and 16 percent brighter than a normal full moon, according to Wikipedia and the space.com web site. This is because the moon is at its closest approach to the Earth.
The astronomical phenomenon hasn’t been seen over Earth’s skies since January 1948, and the next one won’t be appear again until November 25, 2034.
