On October 16, Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 sponsored a tea to help raise funds for Holiday with a Hero. Jill Reed, Elk member, chaired this worthwhile event and Elk members donated raffle gifts. Along with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Fire Department and Carson High School culinary students, $2,035 was raised for this worthwhile organization that takes underprivileged children Christmas shopping.
Holiday with a Hero provides a holiday shopping trip for students in the McKinney-Vento Students-in-Transition program within the Carson City School District. Students are paired with first responders or volunteers from community organizations.
Sponsored by the Carson City School District, the Carson City Sheriffs Office and the Carson City Fire Department, Holiday With A Hero is a program that ensures underprivileged children in Carson City have a proper Christmas.
Donations are dispersed to designated and pre-qualified students as Walmart gift cards. Local first responders shop with the students.
