A shooting Saturday afternoon at a Star Way residence in Carson City is ongoing and remains under investigation, said Sheriff Ken Furlong on Monday.
“The matter is still under investigation. All of the parties that had any part of this have been identified, interviewed or attempted to be interviewed. At least one person has refused to be interviewed,” said Sheriff Furlong. He did not disclose who refused the interview and added he was “thankful for everyone’s cooperation.”
The incident happened Saturday at a Star Way residence after a man forced his way into a home and was shot by the woman inside who did not know who he was. She was briefly detained, interviewed and released.
According to a news release issued from Sheriff Furlong on Saturday evening, it was learned through the preliminary investigation that there had been a verbal altercation between two men earlier that resulted in a vehicle chase. During that chase, two vehicles were struck in separate hit and run crashes.
In the preliminary investigation it was learned that a man involved in the chase forced his way into the Star Way home where he was shot. The man was taken to the hospital and was last reported to be in serious condition.
The woman who shot the man and two others were briefly detained for the investigation and released. The investigation has centered on the motive of the man shot, who has no known affiliation or connection to the Star Way residents, the news release states.
The following is the news release from Saturday:
At approximately 1:56 p.m., October 25, 2025, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting that had taken place at the 2200 block of Star Way. Original reports indicated that an adult male had been shot just inside the doorway of the residence.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene at 2:01 p.m., along with Fire/Medical units. At arrival, the occupants of the residence surrendered themselves to officers. The victim of the shooting was treated at the scene and subsequently transported by air flight to Renown Medical Center for a serious gunshot wound to the chest. Three people associated with the residence were immediately detained but later released pending the investigation.
Preliminary investigation information has suggested that two adult males were involved in a verbal altercation at a gas station on Hwy 50 near the I-580 intersection. That dispute led to one driver chasing the other to the area of the Star Way residence. Two separate vehicle accidents are suspected to be associated with this incident are being investigated. One crash was reported as a hit and run accident on Biltmore Street, and the second crash was reported at the Star Way address, just one block away from the first crash scene. No injuries were reported in either crash.
This investigation has centered on the motive of the shooting victim, who has no known affiliation or connection to the Star Way residence. The residents of the home and female who shot the man did not know the victim of the shooting when he forced his way into their home. No other injuries were reported.
The identity of those people involved and witnesses to the incident are not being released at this time. The shooting victim’s medical condition was described as serious and requiring immediate surgery. No further details are available.
