The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be joining forces with participating law enforcement agencies in Nevada for a Joining Forces Pedestrian Safety Campaign. The campaign takes place October 13th to October 31st.
Pedestrians have the right-of-way when in a crosswalk or in the roadway. Motorists are required to yield to pedestrians and should be extra attentive and exercise due care when approaching all intersections and crosswalks.
All drivers are required to come to a complete stop at crosswalks when pedestrians are crossing and shall not overtake another vehicle that is stopped at a crosswalk. When pedestrians are unlawfully on the roadway outside of a crosswalk, drivers are still encouraged to exercise caution to avoid a collision. (NRS 484B.280)
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a crosswalk enforcement event on Saliman Rd on the 21st of October. The goal is for all pedestrians to be safe and to have zero violations.
Law enforcement personnel will continue to enforce traffic safety laws year-round as part of their commitment to reduce accidents and save lives. Whether you’re the driver, a passenger, or pedestrian, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways their top priority.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s- Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces to reduce traffic deaths.
