On Thursday, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office announced they’d arrested a Silver Springs student who allegedly threatened to bring a firearm to Silver Stage Middle School.
So far this school year year, LCSO has made several arrests of juveniles for threats; the last one occurred just two weeks ago at Dayton Intermediate School after a student allegedly implied they would cause a school shooting the next day.
According to the release, deputies received a report at around 1:30 p.m., and a School Resource Officer (SRO) immediately responded to the school and began an investigation.
“Following a thorough investigation, the juvenile was taken into custody without incident and later turned over to the custody of Lyon County Juvenile Probation,” said LCSO Central Commander Jeffrey S. Miller.
At this time, there is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the community according to Miller.
“The Sheriff’s Office commends the swift actions of the School Resource Officers and the cooperation of Silver Stage Middle School administration and the Lyon County School District in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students,” he wrote.
Miller said they continue to work closely with the school district in enforcing its “zero-tolerance policy for school violence and threats.”
“In accordance with this joint initiative, LCSO will investigate and submit for prosecution any and all crimes occurring on school campuses—whether threats, acts of violence, or possession of weapons—to the fullest extent of the law,” Miller wrote. “The Sheriff’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to an aggressive but fair approach to maintaining safety within Lyon County schools through enforcement, education, and proactive engagement.”
