Students of all ages laced up their running shoes and fit into decorated cardboard cars to race around the track at Carson High School last night, all to help raise funds for the Carson City Schools Foundation.
In its inaugural event, the CARSON 400 drew more than 146 student registrants in kindergarten through 12th grade to put their creativity and racing skills to the test in a stock car-style foot race that combined friendly competition and school spirit in an artistic running event supporting local education programs, teachers and classrooms. Families and community members also enjoyed a Classic Car Exhibition and a Show and Shine competition prior to the races.
Younger participants competed in 100-meter races, while older students raced 400 meters. Awards were presented to the top three finishers in each race. Regardless of where they finished when the checkered flag waved, competitors crossed the finish line with smiles and plenty of laughs.

In addition to the 100M and 400M races, fourth- and fifth-graders in Carson City also competed in the CHS Future Runners 1-mile cross-country race. Leading up to the event, the Carson High School Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams hosted running clinics for students at each of the six elementary schools in Carson City.
