The Carson High School Senators took on the North Valleys High School Panthers Tuesday at North Valleys. The Senators were looking to advance to 8-2 on the season and with the Panthers three guys short on the roster it was already looking good on the roster.
Into the first round action we go and the Senators immediately took control. All four matches ended within a half hour and the Senators swept leaving the score after one round 6-0 (after including the two forfeits). Jake Jones and Tyler Warren took some wins as did the doubles team of Aaron Woodbury and Kyle Kunz as well as the team of Jared Hearn and Trevor Sollberger.
The second round would remain strongly Carson in the singles aspect as Taylor Saaram and Ojo Ventura both took wins, but the Panthers would now take over the doubles aspect of the court winning both of the other two matches. So the score after round two including another round of forfeits was 10-2. The final round was dominated by the Panthers who swept the entire third round which made the final score after another two forfeits of 12-6 Carson.
Carson plays Manogue Thursday to conclude the regular season, but weather or not the Senators win they will come in at the 4 seed as a team and will play the 5 seed (most likely Spanish Springs) Tuesday October 7th at home. If they win there they will play the winner of the 1 vs. 8 seed match which is almost guaranteed to be Reno High School at Reno and the team regional finals is next Friday, October 10th at the Caughlin Club in Reno.
As the closing stages of the regular season comes to an end, the final matches become more and more important for individual regionals seeding. Carson best hope to send an individual to state is definitely the doubles team of Kyle Kunz and Aaron Woodbury who will either be seeded at third or forth in the north depending on their performance on Thursday match against Manogue. Carson has yet to send an individual to state in 9 years.
