A 15-year-old teen was critically injured and flown to a Reno hospital trauma ward early Thursday evening following a bicycle accident involving a vehicle at a North Ormsby Boulevard intersection.
The incident happened at around 5:40 p.m. The male teen, a Carson High student, was taken to the airport where they were flown by air ambulance to Renown hospital’s trauma ward. As of Friday morning the teen remains in ICU, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The accident is under investigation and no arrests or citations have been reported at this time. It is unknown at this time if the teen was wearing a bicycle helmet.
The sheriff reminds motorists, pedestrians and bicycle riders of the change of seasons, which makes daylight hours shorter in the late afternoon and early evening.
“As it is getting darker earlier, bicycle riders, pedestrians and motorists should watch out for one another,” said Sheriff Furlong. “Pedestrians or bicyclists are not always seen by the driver.”
Furlong urges bicycle riders to wear protective gear and use lights so motorists can see them.
Carson High School and the Carson City School District were notified of the accident. We will update as information becomes available.
