Varsity volleyball action was underway Tuesday as the Senators of Carson High School took on the Panthers of North Valleys. This was the last of the three home game stand at Carson High School and the Senators would certainly make it count and please the home crowd once more.
The Senators looked a bit lackadaisical in the start, but soon they were playing textbook volleyball and hitting absolute fireballs, killing almost every ball they could get their hands on. The Senators of Carson City would go on to win the first set with ease at 25-12. The resilience would continue into set number two as Carson put on a clinic of ball control to take set number two at 25-8.
Carson would continue to roll into the third set even though the majority of players on the court were not starters, but did lack some intensity toward the finish line; however, they did manage to close out the third set at 25-13.
“Our ball control was where it needed to be, and our energy levels were high,” said Carson Head Coach Robert Maw.
The game was important for the girls’ confidence, especially going into an important league game against Damonte this Thursday. “The positive momentum and energy is important when playing a good team.” Coach Maw said.
One of the goals achieved by Coach Maw was that every girl got to play tonight. He mentioned that it is important to get everybody playing time because a starter could sustain an injury, it builds the team chemistry and keeps interest about playing time higher.
Some honorable mentions for the game were Juliana Anderson with 7 kills, Keelin Pilgrim with a season high 5 kills, Katie Matuska with 2 blocks and Natalie Anderson who coach maw said was incredibly accurate tonight passing the ball. The Senators next game will be against the Damonte Ranch Mustangs at Damonte this Thursday at 6 p.m.
