More than 100 runners and walkers of all ages took to the starting line Saturday at McFadden Plaza in downtown Carson City for the annual Walk/Run 5K to Remember, a benefit Northern Nevada Alzheimer’s Association.

Organized annually by local Realtor Brenda Collings and supported by many volunteers, it was a picture-perfect, end-of-summer fitness event Saturday with plenty of supporters, families and loved participating.

The Walk to Remember event also serves as a tribute to remember those with, or who have died of Alzheimer’s as well as for the families, loved ones and in-home nurses who provide care for those suffering from the disease.

Organizers note that Alzheimer’s isn’t just memory loss. One in three seniors die with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, taking more lives than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

Pre-warmup was guided by Cindy Thompson of KaiaFit and Sierra Lutheran High School cheerleaders. Runners and walkers enjoyed music, vendors, raffle prizes, great energy and more.
