Carson Nugget Casino and Kat Simmons presents an evening of laughter when the nationally touring comedy show “3 Blonde Moms … See How They Run,” takes the stage in the newly-remodeled Carson City showroom, Friday, Sept. 21.
This ever-evolving comedy show features comedy actresses Joan Fagan, Donna Cherry and Simmons, each giving their perspectives on motherhood and life guaranteed to have audiences laughing.
The show, launched nine years ago, grew out of Fagan’s one woman stand-up routine and has played to sold-out audiences nationwide.
“The early seed for the show came with the birth of my daughter when I found I was writing more about that and the more people responded in ways they hadn’t before,” said Fagan, the show’s producer. “The premise is that I’m the Perky Mom, one craft away from snapping, Donna is the Hottie Mom, the one who lives in our neighborhood who always looks good and always pulls it off, and then there’s the Fiesty Mom – that’s Kat – the one who’s more earthy and tells it like it is.
“We are the three unlikely friends in the cul-de-sac who share the bond of being moms.”
The show opens with the women sharing the stage and then moves on to each doing their own thing, and then returning to the stage together to finish.
“ We have created balance in the show and Donna, Kat and I have toured together the last three years,” Fagan said, noting that having the support of good friends on the road staves off the loneliness that often comes from traveling solo.
“We are each so different in our approach and how we see things and it works,” Simmons said. “You know my life is my act and my act is my life, so it always changes.
“And I would say that’s true for each of us.”
Each of these women are accomplished in their own right. Their talents range from stage performance to television and solo comedy careers. Audiences can relate to parts of what each woman brings to the show, from Fagan’s crafty, PTA attending, long-married world view, Cherry’s comedy combined with her impressions, singing and dancing (she is Juilliard trained) and Simmons’ interpretation of single motherhood, aging and dating in mid-life.
“There is something for everyone to relate to,” Simmons said. “And it also gives the men at our shows a better understanding, I think, of the women – their wives, mothers, daughters – in their lives.”
And it is this evolution that keeps audiences coming back for more.
They have played every kind of venue, selling out 750 seat theaters in return venues throughout the country on their fifth and sixth appearance, a fact that still surprises Fagan at times.
In fact, “3 Blonde Moms” has been so well received that Fagan is working on a movie script and has a television show in development.
“It has been amazing to see this grow,“ Fagan said. “Being the show’s producer and performing in it has required that commitment to balance and somewhere along the road, I have tapped into a demographic that isn’t served by traditional comedy where the shows are usually later at night and feature edgy material.
“Our shows are scheduled earlier in the evening and the material is appropriate for all ages,” she said. “It’s a great date night or girls’ night out, a time to recharge and take some time to laugh and let loose … moms need to know it’s OK to take time to fill themselves up so they have more to give back (to their families and friends) … it’s the ripple effect.”
