Sonoma Park, located at 1003 Sonoma Street in Carson City, will be closed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 6, 2025 for seasonal maintenance to renovate turf, address irrigation issues and repair the irrigation system in the park.

During the temporary closure, Carson City staff will perform turf rehabilitation throughout the park. This includes aerifying (or aerating) and over-seeding, re-sodding and fertilizing the turf to help it recover from heavy usage.

Park staff will also perform an irrigation evaluation to assess the system’s performance. Residents are advised that irrigation will be used at irregular hours throughout the day to complete this work.

Additionally, Public Works will make improvements to the City’s on-site utility infrastructure and repair the sidewalk on Stafford Way.

Residents are further advised that digging and trenching work may expose certain areas of the park. For the safety of the staff, the public, and their pets, the park must be closed for the duration of the work.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure. For a list of the other dog-friendly parks in Carson City, please visit Carson.org/parksandrec
