In his new book, “Tales from the Nevada Ether: 13 Stories of Monsters, Miracles, and Madness,” Richard Moreno, author of “Reno Confidential: Eleven Historic Influencers” and “Frontier Fake News: Nevada’s Sagebrush Humorists and Hoaxsters,” presents thirteen original short stories influenced by the likes of Ray Bradbury, Rod Serling, and Edgar Allan Poe.
Primarily known for his non-fiction, historical books, in this new work Moreno takes readers into a world of lost caves, ghost towns, old mines, and even dragons in this collection of haunting, mind-bending tales set in the land of sage and silver.
Readers will discover the secret of the once-prosperous mining town of Borrasca, learn what lurks in the caverns beneath another historic mining community, and encounter radiant creatures who seem to have granted decades of prosperity to those living in a remote Nevada valley.
“Over the years, I have periodically written fiction. Most has been in the form of short stories, and nearly all have been set in Nevada. I wrote them for myself, and to allow me to exercise different writing muscles,” Moreno said. “In recent years, a handful have appeared in various anthologies. So, when Dragon Crown Books publisher Stephen Provost asked me if I had enough stories for my own collection, I finally decided to let them loose into the world.”
Moreno is the author of 16 non-fiction books including “A Short History of Reno, 2nd Edition,” “A Short History of Carson City,” “The Roadside History of Nevada,” and “Nevada Myths and Legends.” He is the former publisher of Nevada Magazine and earned the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen Award in 2007.
