TAHOE NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. — Firefighters battling the North Fire that started late Monday afternoon in the Tahoe National Forest 40 miles west of Lake Tahoe are gearing up for a full attack Tuesday morning with more strike teams, hand crews, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, including a large tanker.

The U.S. Forest Service reported late Monday the fire was at 650 acres. The North Fire started in the North Fork Campground in the American River Canyon, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

North Fork Campground, Onion Valley Campground and Tunnel Mills Campground on Texas Hill Road and Lake Valley Reservoir were evacuated as of around 8 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

Multiple resources responding including air tankers, helicopters, dozers, engine strike teams, hand crews and water tenders.
