From health, nutrition and history talks to the 27th season of the Carson Follies variety show to benefit Meals on Wheels, September is gearing up to be another fun-filled month. We hope to see you at lunch or the many events we have planned.
We kick things off with our annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser with the return of the Carson Follies presents the Time Machine on Sept. 11, 12 and 13 at the Bob Boldrick Theater. You don’t want to miss this incredible show.
We also need more volunteers to help with a community-wide free health clinic on Saturday, Sept. 19, and are urgently seeking muscle to help set up on Sept. 18 and tear down on Sept. 20. Can you sign up to help us?

History Program: All Aboard! Steel Rails of the Silver State
Join local historians David & Gayle Woodruff on Tuesday, September 8 at 1:30 p.m. for a fast‑moving journey through the high desert and mountain passes in this 55‑minute history slide show exploring the colorful network of railroads that once stitched Nevada and the Eastern Sierra together — lines that hauled ore, timber, tourists, and dreams across some of the West’s most dramatic landscapes. From the proud days of the Virginia & Truckee to the lonely whistle of the Carson & Colorado, these railroads shaped boomtowns, linked remote communities, and left behind a legacy of grit, ingenuity, and larger‑than‑life characters.
The program also includes a look at the famous Friendship Train and its goodwill‑laden course through Nevada just after World War II, bringing these stories to life with vivid images, surprising tales, and the enduring romance of steel rails meeting sagebrush.
