The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has stepped up its efforts to get intoxicated drivers off the road. Beginning Thursday through Sept. 5, patrol officers will be out in full force as part of a citywide crackdown on drunk driving. Saturation patrols, as they are called, aim to identify, stop and remove drunk and impaired drivers, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Darrin Sloan in a news release.
Labor Day weekend, statistically, is the most deadly holiday weekends nationwide, when it comes to deaths caused by accidents involving drunk drivers.
A DUI administrative checkpoint is planned for Sunday, Sept. 2, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Carson City. Motorists will be checked for impairment, driver’s license, and insurance. Officers will also check for seatbelt usage and properly installed child seats. The location is to be determined. All cars will be routed through the check point and screened for signs of impaired driving. This, Joining Forces event is sponsored through a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety will be conducted in partnership with the Nevada Highway Patrol, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. The Ron Wood Family Resource Center will also be at the checkpoint.
The DUI saturation and Administrative Checkpoint are part of the Sheriff’s Office commitment to having Zero Fatalities. The campaign, said Sloan, is not just this for holiday weekend but everyday.
