Temperatures expected to range from the upper 90s to the low 100s around Carson City and surrounding counties through at least Tuesday has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Heat Advisory for the region.

The advisory is for western Nevada and northeastern California and runs from 11 a.m., Monday to 9 a.m. Wednesday. High temperatures are expected to range from 95 to 105 degrees, with overnight lows between 65 and 72 degrees in the hottest valleys, NWS forecasters said. The heat will also be felt in the Sierra valleys, with highs in the 90s.

These conditions will provide little overnight relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illness, especially for sensitive groups and those without adequate cooling, according to the weather service. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and take breaks in air-conditioned spaces.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible Tuesday through Wednesday, with gusty west winds midweek bringing cooler temperatures Thursday and Friday, according to the weather service. Light haze with occasional pockets of wildfire smoke from fires in California may also develop.
