Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization, the Leisure Hour Club, recently installed new officers for the 2026-27 year.

Sworn in during the organization’s May meeting by outgoing president Ed Schnabel were: President – Lee Heidenfeldt, 1st Vice President/Tours – Joyce Filatreau, 2nd Vice President/Programs – Cheryl Rookwood, Treasurer – Shelly Harmon, Secretary – Dan Neverett, and Paula Billman as Director-at-large.

The Leisure Hour Club was established in September of 1896 and will begin to celebrate its 130th year with its first dinner meeting on Thursday, September 17. The organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature. Its motto of “Let knowledge grow from more to more” comes from Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam.
