With back to school shopping officially underway, customers at Walmart on Market Street in Carson City got into the spirit of giving Saturday, donating items to the “Stuff the Bus” school supply campaign hosted by Salvation Army.
The combined “Stuff the Bus” effort with Salvation Army Carson City and Walmart encourages shoppers to pick up and purchase items on a list provided to them when they enter the store. In doing so, they help fulfill local student school supply needs, said Salvation Army Capt. Sara Evans.
There is not an actual bus to stuff, but there are barrels and student greeters where customers can pick up the list of suggested items and drop them off. Those needs include backpacks, calculators, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, hand sanitizer and more.

For shoppers Sara Johnson and Richard Herman of Dayton, they learned about campaign as they entered the store.
“We just walked in and noticed them there, they showed us the flyer, we took a picture of it and went into shop,” said Johnson. They bought backpacks, lunchboxes, glue sticks, pencils, markers and more.
“Pretty much everything on the list,” Johnson said.
The campaign continues until 4 p.m. Saturday at the main entrances at Walmart. For those who want to help Salvation Army “Stuff the Bus” with school supplies, see the flyer is below.
