George Rainey

George Rainey of Carson City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones on June 25, 2025, at Carson Tahoe Hospital, Carson City, NV.

George was born in San Fernando, California to Luther and Esther Rainey on October 17, 1948. He attended Sylmar High School as a teenager and Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California as a young adult.

In 1966, George met the love of his life, Barbara Dyemartin, at Woolworths Five & Dime store in San Fernando. The minute he saw Barbara in her orange mini dress and go-go boots he knew he wanted to go on a date with her. The rest is the history of their wonderful life together.

George and Barbara were married on February 7, 1970, in Sylmar, California at St. Didacus Catholic Church. In 1973, they had their first child Sean George, and in 1977 Michelle Patricia was born. In 1979, George took a transfer opportunity with his job working for Snap On Tools, to the region of Northern Nevada. George and Barbara made the decision to move with their young family to the area and have been in Carson City ever since.

George retired from Snap On and went to work for United Rentals Company before his full retirement. Once retired, George spent his days working around the house and fixing things of all kinds. He was a very capable and handy guy — if there was something that needing figuring out, you could count on George to do the job.

In April, George and Barbara celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on the Big Island of Hawaii with their two adult children, their spouses, and five very active and beloved grandchildren. Hawaii was one of their favorite places on Earth. That was their last trip as a family and was a wonderful gift.

George was much-loved husband, dad, and grandpa of the family and will be dearly missed. George is survived by his loving wife Barbara Jean and their adult children, Sean (& Holly) Rainey of Montana; Michelle (& Bobby) Gasper of Carson City; and five grandchildren Emily, Camille, Nicolas, and Isabel Rainey of Montana, and Hope Gasper of Carson City.

A family celebration of life is scheduled for a future date.
