A 31-year-old woman was arrested early Tuesday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pointing a gun at a man during a domestic dispute, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested Edna Ileana Llamas Cortes. According to the booking report, Cortes is alleged to have pointed a gun at the man following an argument.
Deputies responded at 2:39 a.m. and interviewed the man who said he and the woman were in a verbal argument over the children and that she was highly intoxicated and had been drinking all day while he was at work, the report states.
He said that during the argument, he was in the living room and the woman was in the kitchen. He said she grabbed his firearm, a Glock 17 from the kitchen cabinet, walked into the living room and pointed the firearm at him, the report states. He said he took the gun away from the woman and put it in a cabinet next to the sofa and said she told her kids she was going to leave.
The man said he tried to stop her and told her he would get a cab but she refused and then drove away with the two kids, the report states.
Dispatch then advised the woman had contacted them, and that she was at her mother’s house. Deputies arrived and met with the suspect and was read her Miranda rights. She agreed to speak. She denied pointing the gun at the man and driving away with the kids, saying that the kids father arrived and picked up them up, the report states.
The father of the children, who was on the woman’s speaker phone as she was speaking with the deputy, said he picked up the kids near the suspect’s mother’s house. The suspect then later said that a friend had picked them up, the report states.
The deputy asked her if she was lying. She then said that she drove with the kids to a corner near the house and met with a friend. The deputy attempted to contact the friend but she did not answer, the report states.
The deputy then placed the woman in back of the patrol vehicle and showed her the gun the man said that she pointed at him. She identified the gun, which she said he kept in the kitchen cabinet. Based on the totality of circumstances, victim and witness statements and that she knew of the firearm location, she was placed under arrest for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,000.

— A 25-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Joseph Oneil was taken into custody following an investigation. According to the report, deputies were called to residence at 10:06 p.m. regarding a suicide threat.
Deputies arrived and met with a witness who said his cousin, Joseph Oniel, and Oneil’s girlfriend, got into an argument. The cousin advised he saw the man throw the woman down, choke and drag her across the living room floor by her hair, the report states.
The cousin stated that is when he grabbed Oneil to take him off the woman. Then he advised his cousin grabbed a shotgun and threatened to hit him with it. He advised his cousin took the shotgun and drove off. Deputies asked if the cousin felt threatened by Oneil and he stated “no, we are cousins and we fight all the time,” the report states.
Deputies interviewed the woman who was distraught and crying. She advised she and Oneil got into an argument earlier at the pool, when he got angry and walked home. When he returned, she said he ripped her off the couch by her feet, then grabbed her by the neck and got on top of her. She advised he put all of his weight on her while choking her with both hands around her neck, the report states.
She advised she began to defend herself by hitting the man. She advised he continued to choke her until the cousin came into break up the fight. The deputy asked her if she needed medical assistance. She said she was fine and said she could breath while being choked but that she felt scared. She further advised she did not want to be a victim since she hit the man back, the report states.
Deputies took photos of the woman, who had red markings around her neck on the front right side of her neck. There were reddish marks on the right cheeks of her face and a marking on top of the woman’s forehead, the report states, which the deputy report states are consistent with tight grabbing and squeezing around an individual’s neck. The deputy asked about the mark on her forehead. She advised it may be from hitting her head on the coffee table when the man pulled her off the couch, the report states.
At 10:27 p.m. deputies saw the suspect vehicle pull onto Stanford Drive. Due to the circumstances at the time, with the man possibly being suicidal, in possession of a firearm and arrestable for suspected domestic battery, the deputy drew their firearm and took position of cover. The suspect exited the vehicle without any weapons and listened to the deputy’s orders, the report states. He was detained and read his Miranda warning where he stated he wished to speak.
The man advised he got into an argument with the woman and she hit him. He said the woman hit him around 20 times but decided to not speak on it. He advised he did not have any physical contact with the woman. He advised he had alcoholic beverages that night from 7:30 to 8 p.m., one shot and one beer, the report states.
He was placed in back of the patrol vehicle. Later in conversation he began to recant his statements and told deputies that “nothing happened” between him and the woman, the report states. Deputies took photos of the man from all angles, and his hands. He was arrested for suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation. Bail: $7,500.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was booked Monday for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant issued April 17, 2025 out of Sparks Municipal Court. bail: $750.
— A 26-year-old Oroville, Calif., man, Jared Collins, was arrested Tuesday for a felony parole violation warrant issued June 5, 2025 out of Superior Court in Butte County. No bail hold in lieu of extradition.
— A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for driving with a revoked license for DUI with a revocation period of Sept. 17, 2024 through Sept. 17, 2025. for DUI. Bail: $1,137.
— A 55-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for a misdemeanor bench warrant for violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $3,000 cash.
