Members of the Humane Society, Animal Control, and Mayor Bagwell gather with new vehicle

On Thursday, Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell chose the two final winners of the Best of Carson City Pets Contest hosted by the Nevada Humane Society.

Over 150 pets were submitted by Carson City residents, from dogs to cats, rabbits to turtles, and everything in between!

Humane Society staff pared down the entries to about 25, from which Mayor Bagwell made the final selections.

The two finalists, who will be treated to a professional photo shoot, are Wilhelmina (aka Mimi) the dog, and Sammy the cat.

Mayor Bagwell personally made calls to the owners of the pets, congratulating them on their wins.

Wilhelmina loves bacon, getting dog hair on the pillow, stealing socks, fetch, and her favorite place in Carson City to visit is the Sonoma Dog Park.

Sammy is friendly and talkative, and loves giving kisses and purring, as well as getting his photo taken! His favorite place in Carson City is, conveniently for him (and his owners), his couch.

After the pets are treated to their professional photoshoot, the new animal control vehicle will be wrapped in their likeness.

To those who did not make it onto the truck, stay tuned: Carson Now and the Nevada Humane Society are partnering to create a calendar based on the entries submitted by the community, which will be revealed at a later date!
