A garrison U.S. Flag celebration helped Carson City highlight America’s 250th anniversary with a downtown vehicle parade and ceremony Saturday at Carson Tahoe Health. The 20 feet by 30 feet flags now serve as a welcome for motorists from the north and south gateways to Carson City.
Organized by the Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation and Carson City, the funding of the garrison U.S. flags initiative was 100% community-driven, with sponsors, donors and contractors providing in-kind services to bring the project to life.
The two garrison U.S. Flags are 20 feet by 30 feet in size. The north flag is located at Carson Tahoe Hospital near the southbound I-580 off ramp. The south flag is at the intersection of Highway 50 and I-580.

Ahead of the ceremony, was the Freedom Cruise 250, a vehicle parade and cruise hosted by Nevada Day Inc., that began downtown and made its way along the route of North Carson Street, ending at Carson Tahoe Hospital. (We will have a separate video and photo gallery of the Freedom Cruise 250 parade later this afternoon.)
“We’re proud of the support we’ve received for this project,” Mayor Lori Bagwell said earlier this week. “The overwhelming support from our community, along with the dedication and enthusiasm of our local and state partners, truly affirms the deep pride and love we share for our nation.”
