Nevada Day, Inc. announced Thursday the launch of the Nevada Day Parade 50-Year Time Capsule Initiative, a community-wide project that will open for contributions on July 4, 2026, and remain open through Nevada Day on October 31, 2026, before being ceremonially sealed for half a century at the Nevada Day Parade.
Timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States, the initiative — titled “From America 250 to America 300” — will collect photographs, artwork, letters, memorabilia, and digital memories that capture the spirit of the Nevada Day Parade, Carson City, and communities across the Silver State. When the capsule is opened in 2076, the nation will be marking its 300th anniversary, giving future generations a window into how Nevadans celebrated America’s 250th.
The Nevada Day Parade has celebrated the state’s history and pioneering spirit for more than eight decades. Organizers say the time capsule extends that tradition of community pride into a gift for the future.
How the community can participate
- Premier Sponsors of the parade will each receive a dedicated time capsule box to fill with their own documents, photographs, and advertisements marking their support of the tradition. To become a Premier Sponsor, please reach out to nevadaday@nevadaday.com.
- If not a sponsor, any government agency, business, nonprofit, civic group, museum or historical society, faith-based group, or chamber/association can take part through the “Friends of the Nevada Day Parade” package, priced at a fixed $250, which includes a dedicated envelope for photographs, letters, promotional items, and other keepsakes documenting their history and service.
- Veterans organizations and school classrooms will be able to participate at no cost, submitting artwork, written messages, and materials that reflect their service or their hopes for the future.
- Members of the public are asked to first download the Nevada Day Parade mobile app and respond to the featured prompt. Once completed, participants can bring their photos and documents to the Nevada Day Gift Shop, 508 N Curry St, Carson City, on Wednesdays or Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., where staff will digitize the materials for inclusion in the time capsule.
A formal proclamation recognizing the initiative is expected to be issued by Mayor Lori Bagwell of Carson City, officially designating July 4, 2026, as the opening of the time capsule collection period.
“This time capsule is our way of making sure the people who gather in 2076 know who we were, what we valued, and how much we loved this community, our state, and our country,” said the Nevada Day Parade Board of Directors of Nevada Day, Inc. “Every letter, photo, and piece of artwork we collect becomes a bridge across fifty years.”
