With the official day of summer arriving with the solstice on Monday, the weather will heat up around Carson City, with very hot temperatures expected for central and southern Nevada and some areas of western and northern Nevada.
A strong ridge of high pressure will build over the Sierra and western Nevada this week. This will result in hotter daytime temperatures with highs reaching into the mid and upper 90s across western Nevada with low to mid 80s in the Sierra. Record or near record temperatures are expected in southern Nevada where the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning.
As of Sunday afternoon, however, the expected high temperatures in Carson City and Carson Valley are to hover around 90 and above beginning Monday and running through Wednesday, though those temperatures could change depending how the high pressure ridge sets. For the Dayton area, temperatures may be around 90 through Wednesday.
There is a Heat Advisory for southeast Nevada including Tonopah, White Pine County, northwestern and northeastern Nye county, including areas Ely, McGill, Connors Pass, Great Basin National Park, Round Mountain, Duck Water and Currant Summit.
