One of my favorite magazines is called “Nevada Business.” It does originate in Southern Nevada, but they do a great job of giving great information on businesses in all of Nevada.
Every year, they do a poll of decision makers – executives and business owners – across the entire state of Nevada. Most of the respondents are long termers…having been in business in Nevada for 20 or more years.
I wanted to share just a few interesting observations. If you want to read the entire poll, get the May 2026 edition of Nevada Business. In fact, get a subscription by going to subscribers@nevadabusiness.com (by the way, it’s only about $44 a year)
One question was, “Compared to today, a year from now my business’ bottom line will be…” and the results were 94% said same or better. (56% said better.)
Another question was, “Compared to today, a year from now Nevada’s economy will be…” and the results were 82% said same or better. (21% said better.)
After the last couple of very liberal legislatures, the opinion of Nevada as a business-friendly state has slipped. The question was, “Nevada is a business-friendly state…” $8% said yes, 52% said no. This hurts our ability to attract businesses who are leaving California.
One question gives an idea about employment outlook. “How do you expect your staffing needs to change in the next 12 months…” 58% said the needs will increase, 37% said no change expected.
Healthcare seems to be holding the line. “What overall grade would you give Nevada’s healthcare systems…” 18% A/B, 46% C, 22% D, and 14% F. Note that 64% rated healthcare as average or better.
Education is a problem. “What overall grade would you give Nevada’s educational systems…” 13% A/B, 12% C, 38% D, and 19% F. Note that 57% rated education as almost failing or failing!
Regarding politics, only rural Nevada rated our two US Senators as B-, the rest rated them all Cs. Rep Mark Amodei got C+. Governor Lombardo got a statewide average of B. All major city Mayors got Cs. President Trump got a C-. When asked, “Do you think ID should be required to vote…” 79% said YES. When asked, “Should all elected officials have term limits…” 83% said YES.
Finally, no surprise here, when asked, “Nevada’s businesses have too much of a tax burden, 95% said Agree or Strongly agree. Hmmm. Nevada Legislature needs to pay attention. Remember Seattle and California. A lot of businesses are leaving because of too much tax. Make taxes too burdensome on businesses and they decide to go somewhere else.
Have you heard? 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
