Two were arrested Tuesday for alleged felony child abuse and neglect after an investigation found the couple living in a car with their three small children who had close access to fentanyl pills and marijuana found inside the cramped and dirty vehicle, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Carson Now is withholding the names of the suspects to protect the children’s identity. The male suspect is 31, and the female, 35.
According to the booking report, a CCSO sergeant was sitting stationary on Carson Street in the parking lot across from a motel. While stationary the sergeant observed a young child between the fence and the motel building with no parents present. The sergeant went to the motel to make contact with the young child to ensure they were safe.
Upon arrival the sergeant came into contact with four individuals located in the parking lot and came into contact with the parents and two others. When the sergeant came into contact with them, she observed a vehicle that appeared broken down and full of items.
The sergeant spoke with the parents of the child and learned there are two additional young children. The sergeant asked if everything was OK, as the sergeant saw the three young children with no shoes and dirty clothes.
The parents stated they have been sleeping and living in the car and slept in it last night (June 1) and were living in the vehicle. The sergeant observed the vehicle crammed with a several items. The parents gave the sergeant consent to search the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, the sergeant observed the vehicle packed with luggage, clothes, food, stale food, cat food on the floor, marijuana and prescription bottles on the floor, multiple marijuana bongs, a marijuana pipe and fentanyl pills, the report states.
There was an improperly secured and dirty car seat and two booster seats. There was only one car seat and the two younger children did not fit the criteria for booster seats, the report states.
The seats in the vehicle were stained and had what looked like crusted food on them. The sergeant could smell a strong odor of cat urine coming from the vehicle and couldn’t see the floor of the vehicle because of the clothes and food, the report states.
Both were read their Miranda rights and said they understood their rights. The man stated the marijuana bong was in the vehicle and that he smoked marijuana the prior night. He stated the fentanyl pills the sergeant found were not his but an ex-girlfriend, but he took the box it was in from her, according to the report. He stated he is a meth users and used two days prior. He stated that the car seat was secured properly but they were going to clean the car so they had to unsecured it prior to cleaning the vehicle.
Due to the conditions of the children with no shoes, not bathed, dirty clothes, nowhere to live and the living conditions of the car being unsanitary, crowded and finding the fentanyl pills and marijuana in the vehicle accessible to the children, loose pills in the center console and accessible to the children, the man and woman were taken into custody for suspected child abuse and neglect. The man was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance. Bail: $20,000 each.

— A 37-year-old Sparks man, Jeremy Harvey, was booked into jail Tuesday for a felony warrant alleging violation of a temporary protection order for stalking or harassment, making obscene, threatening or annoying phone calls, stalking first offense and felony arrest for violation of probation or conditions of a suspended sentence. The warrant was issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $10,000.
— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 4:37 p.m. for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies were called to a Jeanell Drive address for a report of a domestic battery. The reporting party advised dispatch that she had been hit by her husband on the back of the head and she was currently hiding in the bathroom.
Deputies arrived, with the male half, later identified as the suspect, answering the door. A deputy proceeded to speak with the suspect, who advised that he and his wife were play fighting. He stated that he took her shoe and she got mad and proceeded to bite him on the left side of his torso and pinched him in the same spot. The deputy asked the man to show the area but he stated there was no mark. The deputy observed the area and did not see any injury. The man then stated he hit the woman on her head and pointed to the back right area of his head, according to the report.
The deputy then spoke with the victim, who decided she wanted to be taken to the hospital due to feeling dizzy from being hit. She stated the man was trying to leave and they began arguing. She stated that during the argument, the man struck her on the back of the head. The deputy asked her to show the spot. The victim pointed to her neck area under her head. The deputy did not observe any injury.
Due to the woman claiming the man had struck her on the back of the head and the man admitting to striking her on the back of the head, he was taken into custody for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
