Local Rotarians will hear from a powerful voice on second chances at their next club meeting. Joaquin Webb, founder and executive director of Reconnect 180, will speak at the Rotary Club of Carson City luncheon on Tuesday, June 2nd, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. The public is welcome to attend.
Drawing from over 20 years of personal experience with incarceration, Webb offers a firsthand perspective on the challenges of reentry. He will highlight Reconnect 180’s innovative “90/90” program, which begins 90 days before release and continues through the first 90 days after. The program focuses on reducing recidivism by providing essential tools such as weekly life-skills training, financial literacy, communication, time management, decision-making, conflict resolution, and reentry planning.
Reconnect 180 also supports participants with critical needs during the first three months after release, including housing, transportation, and medical care. “Housing is one of the biggest barriers,” Webb explains. “Finding safe, affordable options can be extremely difficult due to stigma, restrictions, and limited availability.”
Webb emphasizes that stable housing, employment, and support systems are key to breaking the cycle of reoffending. “When people have those foundations in place, they’re far less likely to return to prison — and that benefits everyone, including our communities and law enforcement.”
