A 34-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday for suspicion of second offense DUI, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

At 2:39 a.m. a Carson City sheriff’s deputy did a license plate registration check on a vehicle going north on Stewart Street. The vehicle returned with suspended registration.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop, in the area of North Plaza and East William and made contact with the driver and sole occupant, a Carson City man.

The deputy informed the man for the stop and asked for his driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. The man provided these.

The deputy noticed the man had red, watery eyes and asked if he had been drinking. The man said no. While speaking the deputy could smell an odor of alcohol. The deputy asked him if he was around anyone who was drinking and he said yes, the report states.

The deputy asked him if he would consent to standardized field sobriety tests to verify he was not too impaired to drive. He said yes. The man showed signs of impairment on the tests and provided a preliminary breath test of .158, the report states.

Based on his SFST performance, the odor of alcohol, red and watery eyes and the PBT, he was arrested for suspicion of DUI second offense. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .142 and .139. Bail: $2,500.
