Carson City Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies were called Monday night to an apartment unit fire in the 1000 block of Woodside Drive.

Reported to dispatch just before 7 p.m. the reporting party said flames and smoke were coming from the kitchen outlet of an apartment unit. Those inside were told to evacuate.

Responding firefighters arrived and did not see any smoke showing from outside the residence. Firefighters made access inside the apartment and cut the electric power to the unit. At around 7:10 p.m. firefighters report they have a handle on it, with the fire contained to an electric switch that had been extinguished by the occupant. Flames did not appear to extend anywhere else.

Southwest Gas and NV Energy are responding.
