UPDATE: The fire was knocked down at around 1:15 p.m., according to a battalion chief on scene. Cleanup is underway.

Carson City Fire Department was called Tuesday afternoon to a fire at the Carson City Landfill, off of Highway 50 East in Carson City.

The fire was called in at around 12:40 p.m. after dispatch received multiple 911 calls regarding a large column of black smoke rising from the area.

A battalion chief on scene confirmed the fire is approximately 50 by 50 foot and is contained in a pile area.

Multiple fire engines have responded. Check back for updates.
