Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City recently had the opportunity to “taste” the impact of a grant awarded last fall.
The club provided a $5,000 grant to the Carson Middle School culinary program, led by teacher Tammy Borremans. The funding was used to purchase essential kitchen equipment, including cookware, oven mitts, storage racks, funnels, rolling pins, and pie mats. It also helped fund a new demonstration station equipped with a cooktop and viewing mirror, allowing students to better observe and learn during lessons.
This week, those same students showcased their skills by preparing, cooking, and serving lunch to Rotarians at the school, featuring dishes such as homemade pasta.
Club President Jeff Paul said he was impressed not only by the meal, but also by the students’ enthusiasm. “I really enjoyed the Q&A portion of the lunch,” he said. “The students clearly have a passion for learning about cooking and food service.”
Paul believes the grant was a meaningful investment. “This $5,000 contribution is an investment in the future of our young people, providing opportunities they might not otherwise have. That’s what the Rotary Club of Carson City is all about.”
The Rotary Club of Carson City awards this annual grant as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education. In addition, the club funds college scholarships and other opportunities for local students.
“When our young people thrive — when they have the chance to lead productive, fulfilling lives — the entire community benefits,” Paul added.
