By Justin Barlow, CHS Counselor — It has been a true honor to watch JT Heaton grow into the exceptional young man he is today. As a senior at Carson High School, JT has excelled in every part of student life. He is the kind of student and athlete who leads by example and earns the respect of everyone around him and that is why he is this week’s Senior in the Spotlight.
JT has pushed himself academically, graduating with a weighted GPA of 5.03. He challenged himself with a rigorous schedule full of AP, Honors and college-level classes. His academic work earned him Academic All-State honors and the NIAA Scholarship Athlete Award, achievements that reflect his focus and discipline.
In athletics, JT has been a standout. On the football field, he helped lead the team to a 7-5 season and was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the Northern Region. In wrestling, JT won the 175-pound regional championship and was recognized as the Outstanding Wrestler of the regional tournament. He would also go on to place third at the 5A Wrestling State Championship. It is also worth noting that JT spent most of his competitive seasons on varsity, where he lettered three times in football and wrestled on varsity all four years. His teammates looked up to him not just for his success, but for the way he carried himself with humility and hard work.
JT is the way he gives back. For multiple years, JT has chosen to work with our CLS students, building strong connections and showing a level of kindness and patience that speaks volumes about his character. JT is well respected by his teachers, coaches and classmates. He represents what it means to be a Carson High School student: hard-working, dependable and full of integrity.
JT’s next goal is to attend one of the U.S. military academies, where he has already earned three congressional nominations. He has not yet decided on a major, but there is no doubt he will continue to make a difference wherever he goes.
We are proud of JT and grateful for the impact he has had on Carson High School.
