Carson City unemployment figures for March show the capital city having the lowest unemployment rate, 4.5 percent, among the state’s three metro areas, along with Reno and Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s monthly report.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.7 percent in March 2025 which decreased by 0.1 percentage points from February 2025. Seasonally adjusted estimates account for regularly seen economic patterns, with the following estimates not seasonally adjusted.
In the three Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA), the March unemployment rates were 5.6 percent in the Las Vegas area, 4.7 percent in Reno and 4.5 percent in the Carson City area in March 2025.
The Carson City MSA’s unemployment rate is a decrease from 4.8 percent in February 2025, and down from 4.8 percent in March 2024, non-seasonally adjusted. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 90 since February 2025 for a current level of 1,341 people, which is 63 less unemployed people than March 2024, according to DETR.
The labor force in Carson City is currently 30,131 people, which is 169 more people than February 2025, and is up 977 people since March 2024, according to the report.
The Reno MSA’s unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in March 2025, decreasing from 4.9 percent in February 2025, and down from 4.8 percent in March 2024, non-seasonally adjusted.
The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 648 since February 2025 for a current level of 14,328 people, which is 92 less unemployed people than March 2024, the report states. The labor force in Reno is currently 307,759 people, which is 1,172 more people than February 2025, and is up 8,939 people since March 2024.
In Nevada’s counties, the lowest unemployment rate was in Elko County at 4.3 percent, and Mineral County had the highest rate at 9.6 percent. For a look at the unemployment rate in your county, visit the Area Profiles Page.
