The Fox Brewpub in downtown Carson City has announced it is currently adding a brewery to its operations, pub owner Jim Phalan said Wednesday.
“We are currently in our tenth year of business,” he said. “To kick off the next ten years, we wanted to add a complete brew house to our current operations.”
Construction is already underway, he said, on the expansion project that will provide patrons fresh brewed beers made on-site.
The new brew house will be located along with the pub on the first floor of the historic St. Charles Hotel, which fronts North Carson Street and the Bob McFadden Plaza.
“The brewery equipment has been ordered and should arrive some time in August of this year,” Phalan said. “The system we purchased is a seven-bbl system, with a capacity of around a 1000 bbls a year (that’s 2000 kegs).”
In addition to the brewery, Phalan said The Fox Brewpub is also expanding its parking area in a lot to the south of the hotel property. This will give patrons of the pub and the new brewery better access to the business, he said.
Phalan said he hopes to have all permits and licenses in hand by the end of September and in plenty of time for Nevada Day festivities.
“We are hopeful to have all permits and licenses finalized in late September, so we can be ready to serve beer on Nevada day.”
Phalan said that although the brewery will be built with expansion and distribution in mind, there are no current plans to distribute.
In about a month The Fox Brewpub will be offering Crowlers, 32-ounce cans of beer to-go for those patrons who would like to sample some of the craft beers currently on tap.
Out of the 17 draft beers at the brewpub, Phalan said only 6-8 beers will be dedicated to in-house flavors.
“We will continue to have local favorites on tap all year,” he said.
The Fox Brewpub is open daily starting at 11 a.m. It’s open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
