A 66-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

At around 3:25 p.m. Carson City sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2200 block of East William Street for a report of a possible intoxicated driver. The deputy followed the vehicle as it turned left and began traveling south on Saliman Road. The deputy observed the front passenger and rear tires were over the broken lane line and remained in the number two lane as the vehicle traveled south, the report states.

The deputy activated their overhead lights near the entrance of Carson High School to signal for the driver to pull to the shoulder onto Seely Loop. The driver continued traveling south passing Seely and continued to the intersection of East Robinson Street and North Saliman Road.

At this time another deputy arrived to assist the the traffic stop and the patrol car siren was activated to alert the driver that he was signaling for him to pull over. The driver then slowed and pulled to the shoulder at the intersection of Pinto Court and North Saliman.

The deputy proceeded to inform the man the reason for the stop. The deputy asked if he had been drinking any alcoholic beverages today and he said no.

The deputy observed the man’s speech was thick and slurred and his eyes appeared red and watery. The man exited the vehicle at which time the officer checked him for weapons before instructing him to walk to the back of his vehicle and onto the sidewalk. The deputy was able to smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, the report states.
