A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a contempt of court warrant and felony possession of a controlled substance with an intent to sale after deputies mistook the man for his twin brother.

Jonathan Scott Crandell was arrested after deputies from the tri-tori-county Gang Unit were patrolling a local casino when they observed a man who looked like a man who had two warrants out for his arrest.

The man had ran from deputies a few weeks prior, and had yet to be apprehended. Deputies spoke to Crandell, who was cooperative, but told them he was the man’s twin brother. Deputies knew from prior department briefings that the man had a twin brother, according to the report.

The man was identified by his ID card; however, a records check showed that Crandell also had a warrant out for his arrest, issued by the Carson City Justice Court for contempt of court.

Deputies took the man into custody. He asked deputies if they could search his backpack so he could release it to a friend as opposed to taking it to jail.

Deputies searched the bag and immediately located a small red and black fabric container with neon yellow tape. Inside were multiple clear plastic bags, a small amount of heroin, and a small amount of methamphetamine. In a separate compartment of the backpack they found a small digital scale.

He was taken into custody without incident.

— Three people were arrested at a Williams Street Casino Friday afternoon by SET deputies after deputies were dispatched on reports of a victim from a previous crime being harassed by the three. The victim was concerned the three were going to become violent.

Shawn Randall McDougall, Katie Noelle Sardella, and a third 25-year-old man were arrested for suspicion of a myriad of charges including a convicted person failing to register, possession of a controlled substance, destroying evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, among other things.

Deputies arrived at the casino and located the three. The 25-year-old was attempting to leave the scene, but another deputy was able to stop him.

The 25-year-old has been convicted of three felonies, and has an “extensive and violent criminal history,” according to the report. He was released from prison in March, and has been living in the Carson City area. However, he had not registered as a convicted felon at any point after his release. He was arrested and taken into custody for a convicted person failing to register.

Sardella and McDougall were located inside the casino. Sardella is under supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing, and was being detained by DAS officers when deputies arrived.

According to the report, DAS officers reported they found the couple after McDougall was exiting the women’s restroom, while Sardella was still inside. They located a spoon with methamphetamine and heroin residue on it located in a trash can where Sardella was last seen.

In the toilet of the restroom, deputies found discarded drug paraphernalia. They determined Sardella and McDougall had attempted to flush heroin and cotton balls down the toilet when they were encountered by probation officers.

Both Sardella and McDougall appeared to be under the influence of heroin, according to the report. In Sardella’s phone deputies found multiple messages about buying heroin, networking other people who wanted to buy heroin, and stealing from local stores.

Sardella admitted to using heroin.

No other people were in the restroom at the time officers made contact.

Aprille Knight was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies after deputies were dispatched to the residence while attempting to locate Knight on a felony burglary warrant.

Deputies spoke with the homeowner of the residence over the phone and relayed to her that there were several people in her home while she was away. She was upset and told her daughter, who arrived on scene, to have everyone come out of the house.

Knight came out of the residence along with several other people. Knight had a warrant for her arrest and was an absconder from Nevada Parole and Probation. She was taken into custody on the warrant.

During a search of her person, deputies located several hypodermic devices with liquid methamphetamine in her purse.

She was taken to the Carson City Jail without incident.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Airport Road Friday afternoon for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, failing to use a turn signal, failing to use a seat belt, driving without a valid driver’s license, and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation.

Nicholas Glen Peart Boyd was arrested by SET deputies after deputies were patrolling on Airport Road and Menlo Drive. They observed a sedan traveling southbound on Airport, and the driver was not wearing their seatbelt and did not have a tail light or brake lamp on the left side of the vehicle. Deputies followed the vehicle, and they observed the vehicle driving into the oncoming travel lane and made a U-turn without signaling.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Nicholas Boyd, who immediately began making furtive movements with his hands in the driver door pocket. Deputies noted he appeared to be manipulating something.

Deputies, fearing the man may have a weapon, according to the report, drew their weapons and ordered the man to put his hands up. He slowly complied, deputies said, and they removed him from the vehicle where they put him on the pavement and placed him into handcuffs.

Deputy K-9 Ivo was dispatched, who conducted an exterior free sniff of the vehicle, and he alerted to the presence of drug odor at the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Deputies located a spoon and two hypodermic devices with what appeared to be liquid methamphetamine inside.

He was taken into custody without incident.
