The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that happened Friday afternoon on US-50 at River Boat Road in Dayton that closed portions of the highway for several hours.

At around 2:16 p.m., NHP responded to the incident at US-50 at River Boat Road. A preliminary investigation indicates that a SUV was traveling southbound on River Boat Road approaching US-50. A pickup was traveling eastbound on US-50 in the left number one travel lane.

According to the NHP preliminary report, the SUV failed to yield to the right of way of the pickup truck from a posted stop sign. The pickup truck and the SUV crashed.

The driver of the SUV, an adult male, died at the scene. US-50 at Occidental Drive was closed for several hours, according to NHP.

The driver of the pickup was taken to a local area hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries. The passenger of the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries.

The name of the man who died has not been released pending the initial investigation and notification of family.
