Staff Reports

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of S. Richmond and Crest. Dr. following a car chase and crash all allegedly due to having expired registration.

According to the arrest report, Brandon Lee Linkful was arrested after deputies were patrolling in the area of W. King St. and Albany when they noticed a vehicle driving with expired registration. When the deputy turned the car around, the suspect vehicle took off.

According to the deputy, the vehicle was driving between 45-50 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour.

The deputy activated his overhead lights, and the suspect vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed, running the stop sign at multiple intersections along Richmond Ave., causing at least two vehicles to stop in the intersection to avoid collision.

The deputy briefly lost sight of the vehicle, but located it again at Elm St. and Crest Dr., where deputies observed Linkful leaving the vehicle on foot. The vehicle had crashed into the front yard of a residence on Crest Dr.

Deputies apprehended the suspect on foot and at gunpoint, at which point Linkful complied with orders and was taken without force into custody, according to the report.

Linkful told deputies he was running due to his expired registration.

Multiple witnesses came forward to tell deputies what they had seen during the crash. They said the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed, and when it moved through the drain divots in the road, they heard a loud crash, a white flash and could smell burning.

According to the report, deputies determined this was due to Linkful hitting the drain divots fast enough that it caused the airbags to deploy.

Witnesses were upset due to the high rate of speed in the neighborhood that was so close to St. Teresa’s school, according to the report, and that children often play in the streets within the neighborhood.

Deputies took Linkful to the hospital to be medically cleared before he was booked in the Carson City Jail without issue for felony eluding police, driving with expired registration, and reckless driving.

Bail: $20,719
