A free Community Shred Day will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at United Federal Credit Union, located at 1350 E. William St. in Carson City, hosted by United Federal Credit Union and Austin’s House, an emergency shelter for children who have been removed from unsafe situations across Nevada’s rural counties.

The event invites community members to bring personal documents for secure, on-site shredding at no cost. The event is designed to help residents safely dispose of sensitive materials. Donations to Austin’s House will be accepted at the event.

“This partnership is a meaningful way for us to give back to the community we serve while supporting an organization that is making a real difference in the lives of local children,” said Juan De Alba Villegas, branch manager II of United Federal Credit Union in Carson City and board president of Austin’s House. “We’re proud to work alongside Austin’s House to offer a service that benefits families while raising awareness for such an important cause.”

In addition to providing a valuable community service, the event offers attendees an opportunity to learn more about Austin’s House and the critical role it plays in supporting children during times of crisis.

“Our community continues to show up for Austin’s House in so many ways,” said Marla Morris, executive director of Austin’s House. “This event is a chance for us to give something back while also sharing more about the children we serve and how community support helps provide them with safety, stability and care.”

Participants are asked to bring only paper documents. Please remove binders, clips and non-paper materials prior to arrival. The event will take place rain or shine.
