On April 6, 2025, at 7 a.m., Ian Alexander Nelson, a Sheriff’s Deputy
at the Story County Detention Facility, was terminated from employment and charged with sexual assault of a female inmate at the facility.
This incident was reported on April 5, 2025, at 11:15 p.m., triggering an immediate investigation into the allegations, during which probable cause was established to place Nelson under arrest. He was booked into the Storey County Detention Facility, with a bail set at $100,000.
Nelson was transferred to and is being held at another jurisdiction’s facility.
