After struggling to stay open this past year, and having to fundraise to stay float, the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada located in Carson City has rebounded, and is currently planning their summer and fall events through the rest of the year.
“We started having Lego Day once a month and are able to keep it COVID safe, the next one will be April 24, said Executive Director Christine Brandon.
Additionally, the Museum has also started “Family Art Night” once a month, during which a local artist works with the participants step-by-step and by the end of the night, each person goes home with a completed project. The next Family Art Night event will take place on April 16.
For the summer, the museum is planning to host two week-long “Arts and Culture Camps” as well as two “STEM Camps.” There will be one of each type of camp in both June and July.
“We are currently planning an outdoor event but I don’t have a date set, except it will be before school starts in August,” said Brandon. “We will be closing Ann Street, which is our side street. Think bikes, scooters, skateboards, mechanical bull, food trucks and music.”
The Museum’s “Pure Imagination Gala” has been officially rescheduled for Sept. 18 at Casino Fandango in the ballroom, which comes with an hour-long, family-friendly Magic Show by Jacques the Magician who is based out of Reno.
“It will be Willy Wonka themed and, of course, there will be golden tickets!” said Brandon.
Tickets for the Pure Imagination Gala will be $50.
“It has been a challenge getting things back to ‘normal,’” said Brandon. “Finding creative ways to have events while meeting all the COVID regulations has been difficult and some types of events, like performances, are not doable at this time and foreseeable future.”
