Douglas County News Release
MINDEN — The Douglas County Roads Department installed six new road signs last week that will be activated with a radar detection system once some final preparation is done in the coming days. The new signs will provide drivers a higher level of visual guidance when approaching the curves and improves safety for all drivers.
“Waterloo Lane has recently become an area of concern due to increase in traffic and the sharp curves,” said Jon Erb, Transportation Engineering Manager. “These signs should help people be more aware of the approaching curves and the need to decrease their speed.”
In January 2020, the Regional Transportation Commission approved the Road Department Staff request to fund public safety improvements for the following areas:
— Two curves on Waterloo Lane between SR88 and SR756
— One curve on Mottsville Lane
The safety improvements include the use of new LED curve signs that are radar activated when vehicles approach the curves. The systems were requested as a result of multiple crashes at each of the three locations over the past year.
The Regional Transportations Commission primary function is to insure safety and mobility on Douglas County’s roadways.
The Douglas County Road Department is an essential function of Douglas County and the Road Department continues to maintain roads and signage through the COVID-19 pandemic.
