A number of small earthquakes since early Sunday in northern Nevada have been recorded by the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, including a 3.4 magnitude southwest of Fernley and a 2.4 magnitude near Virginia City.

The two quakes happened in around the same area at different times. The 3.4 magnitude earthquake was 14.5 miles southwest of Fernley at 2:22 a.m. Sunday and was at a depth of 9.2 kilometers or 30,183 feet. The 2.4 magnitude earthquake happened 14.5 miles northeast of Virginia City at 5:02 a.m.

There have been multiple, very small quakes in the same area, usually not felt, between 1.1 to 1.6 magnitude over the past 24 hours, according to the laboratory.

Elsewhere, a small earthquake of 1.5 magnitude happened 9.1 miles east northeast of Yerington at 12:55 p.m. Sunday.
